Beth Stelling was born on April 9, 1986, in Southwestern Ohio, to parents Diane Duval (mother) and Bert Stelling (father). Beth has two older sisters, Meghan Stelling Ewing and Hannah Stelling Klaiber. Beth with her mom Diane host together a podcast called, We Called Your Mom.
When Beth and her sisters were children when their parents got divorced. Stelling’s father, Bert, left to become an actor and moved to Orlando. When Beth was 9, her mom remarried a local church organist, but their marriage lasted for only a short time. Therefore, Diane as a single mother, raised three children alone, moving between Michigan and Ohio. Beth’s maternal family was originally from Louisville.
The comedian’s background has been in theatre since her childhood. Stelling was interested in arts with little inclination towards comedy and satire. In high school, she won the 2003 Ohio Speech and Debate Associate Championship in Humorous Interpretation.
In 2007, Beth attended Miami University and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in theatre. Before graduation, she interned for The School at Steppenwolf in Chicago and studied improv at The Annoyance Theater. Beth started dating comedian Sam Morrill right after escaping an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend. Stelling first met comedian Sam while she was recording her special for Comedy Central in Boston in June 2015. Also, Sam was recording his own Comedy Central half-hour.
It was revealed multiple times that Beth Stelling’s boyfriend helped her to recover from the trauma and comforted her in difficult times. She once praised her stand-up comedian boyfriend as a loving and caring partner who doesn’t get tired of listening and making her laugh. Unfortunately, they parted ways after a year and a half of dating.
After breaking up with Sam, Beth was seen spending more time with Canadian actor, writer, and comedian, Gavin Matts. As per reports, the couple started dating in mid-2017. Physical Assault and Molestation by Ex-Boyfriend
In December 2015, Stelling shared an Instagram post (now deleted) about an abusive relationship with an ex-boyfriend, sharing images of her arms and legs covered in dark bruises. The Netflix writer claimed that her ex-boyfriend, Cale Hartman, a renowned LA-based comedian, physically abused and forcefully molested her. Afterward, he asked her not to talk about him in public to spare his reputation.
After feeling fearful and ashamed, Stelling took to social media to write a lengthy post about her experiences as a survivor of domestic violence. In response to his ex-girlfriend’s allegations, Hartman denied the claims stating Beth’s accusations as false and harmful. No charges were made against him, and Beth has already moved on with her personal life.
Emerging as Chicago’s Best Comedian
Right after graduating in 2007, Beth started doing stand-up shows in local Chicago bars. She became a member of Chicago Underground Comedy and hosted a Sunday night variety show at Town Hall Pub. Just after three years of her professional stand-up began, Beth was named Best Stand-up Comedian in Chicago by The Chicago Reader in 2010.

Until 2012, Stelling lived in Chicago, doing comedy shows and gigs. She even became the New Face of Comedy in Montreal’s renowned Just for Laughs Festival. The standup performer relocated to Los Angeles in 2014 after releasing her debut comedy album Sweet Beth.
The Ohio native’s second comedy album, Simply the Beth, was named one of the Top Ten Comedy Albums of 2015. HBO Max answered their call with Beth’s first-hour stand-up special, Girl Daddy, produced by Conan O’Brien and Team Coco. The New York Times called it The Best Debut Special of the Year.
