    Carrie has always been protective of her relationships. Back in 1996, a magazine called SPIN publically disclosed her romance with bandmate Corin Tucker without their permission. Recalling the moment, Brownstein said that she felt hurtful because neither she nor Corin had a chance to speak to their parents before the story broke.

In her memoir Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl (released on October 27, 2015), the singer revealed that she and Tucker broke up on a hike.     Furthermore, when Carrie began dating Corin, she was in her early 20s, and she was still finding herself. After the incident, the No Cities to Love singer developed defensive behavior. However, the press being interested in her affairs made her relationship status public. Carrie reveals that although her public outing felt like an invasion of privacy. However, she feels grateful that she was not subjected to a chorus of social media opinions.

    Sexuality Rumors: Has Dated Men and Women?

    After SPIN disclosed Carrie Brownstein’s sexual orientation as lesbian in 1996, several news outlets then discussed her sexuality. In 2006, The New York Times described Carrie as openly gay, and in November 2010, the musician stated that she identified herself as bisexual.

    Carrie briefly dated Orange Is the New Black actress Taylor Schilling. One of the last times they were spotted together was at the 10th Annual Global Women’s Rights Awards in May 2015. The two separated in 2016 without disclosing the reason.

    Afterward, Carrie started dating Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson, who casually came out as bisexual to Vanity Fair in April 2018. While neither Carrie nor Jacobson confirmed the rumor, their story however was trending amongst the most digital outlets.

  • In a 2020 article, the Los Angeles Times noted that Brownstein and Annie Clark dated years ago. The article was about the 2020 film The Nowhere Inn, which both Carrie and Annie wrote and starred for the movie. Although there isn’t exact information, it is believed that the former couple dated from 2012 until 2013.
