Isra Hirsi’s father, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, married Ilhan in a faith-based Islamic marriage in the early 2000s. The former couple separated in 2019 after citing irreconcilable differences as a reason for their divorce. Further, Isra has two younger siblings; Adnan Hirsi and Ilwad Hirsi.

In May 2019, Isra, then 16-year-old, along with two youth leaders, Alexandria Villasenor (13) and Haven Coleman (12), planned the U.S. International Youth Climate Strike, where students walked out of class in order to call for urgent climate action.
