In 2015, Ansel inked a contract with Island/Universal Records and dropped his debut single, Home Alone, on July 8, 2016. Under the moniker Ansel Elgort, he released a song named Thief on February 3, 2017. The music video showcased his girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan, a ballet dancer.
